I just want to write songs and produce, I don’t need music theory!
Well…if you want to learn music the proper way, you definitely need music theory training. The ultimate goal of this course is to get you ready to compose and produce your own songs, whether that be a Pop song or even a Classical piece. I’m sure some of you already play instruments, sing, read a bit of music, or play everything completely by ear…which is fantastic! But wouldn’t advancing your knowledge just benefit you that much more? Imagine the endless possibilities once you are able to know the inner workings of music. Plus, it will make the songwriting/producing process A LOT easier. Trust me.
Do I need to play an instrument to learn music theory?
NO! In fact, learning to read music is really beneficial as a fun pastime, problem solving methods to increase brain activity, and picking up whatever instruments you’d like with ease. We will cover A LOT in this course, and it will give you the ability to ultimately choose how you would like to continue your adventure. Some people like analyzing music as if they were doing crossword puzzles; it all depends on what you want to do with what you learn here. We have already covered genres of music and how they interconnect with each other. Now, instead of just recognizing the styles of your favorite songs/pieces, you will actually be able to analyze them at the end of this course. As a piano teacher, I will also incorporate some piano basics. I think it is important to be able to play a tad bit of piano when it comes to songwriting and producing. So, technically speaking, you will actually learn some piano in this course! For those of you that don’t have a piano, don’t rush out and buy one. You can simply use a free smartphone app or a free one provided on the internet.
